Welcome to NARA Education
We’ve introduced you to all of our Board Members, presented you our new technology for education, and have shown where the money you give to NARA Education actually goes in our day to day operations.
We want to continue sharing our journey and our work with all of you, so we’re starting a new Education in Action series where we get you acquainted with our students, as they share their dreams, their favorite parts about school, and how NARA Education is helping them think creatively, independently, and empowering them to take action.
Through getting to know our students, you can see the direct benefits of our work. Some never had access to technology or even realized that they could pursue passions and interests until they attended a NARA Education school and their worldview expanded.
The first student we’d like you to meet is Anaya. She is in the 3rd grade at our Lahore campus, and just loves coming to school every day. She is very enthusiastic about learning new things, and when we talked to her, she was so excited to share some of her favorite things about school.
Let’s chat with Anaya!
“I like to play.”
While education absolutely comes first in our schools, we also recognize that kids need to be kids and that play is an essential time in the day for kids at school. Getting a break from the rigidity of the classroom lets the material soak in as they move their bodies, but also lets them develop the soft skills like teambuilding, real world problem solving, and learning how to work and enjoy time with other kids who are different. All of these have been proven to influence higher achievement in academics as well.
At NARA Education, we want children to be empowered by education, and a large part of that is disconnecting from the rigidity of academics and engaging in actual fun.
“This year, I learned an interesting thing – how to study on a Chromebook.”
This is our true example of education in action! We at NARA Education are working to use technology for education so that Anaya and all her peers can not only have access to and learn to use technology, but so that they can also use it as a gateway to a broader education of all subjects. Even just being able to use a chromebook on a daily basis is huge for these children since technology is not easily accessible to most of them.
In our first steps to use education to end poverty, we rolled out the use of our technology to use in our physical schools, like the one that Anaya attends. As we see how the children get comfortable with the technology, we will eventually use that to roll out our virtual schools technology to those who are not able to attend school but can still get empowered by education.
“I want to learn to speak English.”
In our current world, knowing how to speak English opens up a wealth of opportunities and is a key foundation to be empowered by education. With the majority of work becoming international and most of that business being conducted in English, learning English from an early age is the best way to use education to end poverty.
So, it’s wonderful to hear Anaya wanting to learn English even in just the 3rd grade! A main focus of our virtual schooling technology is to keep the learning and games on the platform in English so that kids can be immersed from the start. In using our technology for education, while students are still in the beginning stages of learning English, AI can work on personalizations and translations of the content until they master the language.
“If I were an animal, I would be a cat.”
Just like play, it’s important to have students think out of the box like this so that they can keep education in action. They don’t just learn about animals on the surface, but by putting themselves in an animal’s mindset and environment, students can be better in tune with those experiences and get out of their comfort zones as well.
Empowered by education to use animals as a stepping stone to putting themselves in the shoes of other people, students are then easily able to transfer that thinking into the real world, gaining better understanding of other people who are different from them. Broadening their horizons through fun like this is also a way to use education to end poverty since students will be exhilarated by problem solving.
“I like to draw pictures of animals.”
Even though our main goal is to use technology for education, we don’t want to lose the importance of creativity and making things with their own hands. That is the true representation of education in action! When students are empowered by education to make their own creations, naturally creativity, practicality, and critical thinking collide. A lot of the time, there is an added enjoyable dimension of play as well.
At higher levels, there is more data on how making things and doing work with the hands relaxes the brain, yet stimulates it in the background to solve problems people otherwise would not have been able to think consciously of. Anaya is priming her brain to solve complex issues later in her career through drawing pictures of animals that she loves.
We hope you enjoyed finding out some of Anaya’s favorite things about school and her areas of interest. We are working very hard every day to fuel her curiosity and get her excited about pursuing her passions in education and beyond. Through this education in action, we are committed to using education to end poverty.
We’re all in to expand worldviews and enhance curiosity for more and more students!
