Keeping Up With The Cool Kids: 6 Emerging Education Trends

It feels like everything in this world is rapidly moving and impossible to keep up with. From fashion styles changing every season to the latest iPhone every year, it can feel overwhelming to keep up with all the trends. It’s not just fashion and technology, but even an institution that seems so intuitive and straightforward like education is adapting faster than ever with new trends.

How can something as abstract and embedded in society as education become trendy? Where is education going? And why does it feel like many people have the potential to be left behind if they don’t keep up with new trends in learning?

Our changing global society, the reliance on technology, and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) are new factors shaping education today that we at NARA Education strive to incorporate into our physical and virtual schools to provide education to children in poverty.

So, what are the hot topics in education? We discuss 6 emerging trends in education today:

1. Online Learning

Online learning is one of the biggest trends in learning that got a huge boost during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Even now that we’re on the other side of the pandemic, online learning is more sophisticated than before and still projected to grow over $150 billion in the next five years

With online learning, there is no barrier to access classes and programs, expanding the reach of education to people who never thought they could go to school. While the growth is mainly on the university level in developed countries, NARA Education’s virtual school technology uses online software to reach children in deep poverty who have family responsibilities and no access to schooling. Because they can do their lessons on their own time on a tablet, they have control over their education, giving them ownership and confidence

2. AI For Personalized Learning

We can’t talk about emerging trends in anything these days without addressing AI. AI looms over every industry, with education being one of the most affected. AI already influences education by helping teachers write curriculums faster and analyze results easier, but the real hot topics in education is how AI can act as a personal tutor to students.

AI can learn a student’s learning behaviors and emotions, being able to guide them in studying at the times that work best for their learning style, which is different for every person. Through this, the students will also know more about themselves, making education easier and more enjoyable, causing them to challenge themselves more

Integrating this with NARA Education’s virtual school software will help children in remote areas seamlessly work education into their lives to overcome the education emergency in Pakistan and other poverty stricken countries.

3. Foucs on Developing Global Humans

With rising globalization, intense geopolitical tensions, and climate concerns all in the forefront, the biggest need in our world is people committed to problem solving, critical thinking, and expanding their minds. Schools keeping up with educational trends need to involve fostering holistic, global minded, fully rounded humans who can work with and learn from others to make our world a better place.

This is a huge goal, but the need for more fully rounded and educated people is bigger than ever, and has the potential to make a more peaceful and ethical world. Through NARA Education’s virtual school technology, children can gain the confidence to become leaders in their local communities, and eventually the global community.

4. New Ways of Testing

With more research into individual learning styles and personalities, it is evident that everyone learns differently. Therefore, the main answer to the question of “Where is education going?” is that educators are experimenting with new ways of testing for understanding.

Standardized tests are not the only way to assess knowledge, and the majority of students do not test well, even when they do have the knowledge and the skills. More than 70% of educators recognize that standardized testing is not the way to measure intelligence, and they are integrating various new assessment styles in their curriculums now.

At NARA Education schools, we test through presentations, projects, group work, and even games, focusing more on how the students use what they learn.

5. Moving to Lifelong Learning

The world is changing, education is changing, and as a result, the job market is changing just as fast. Those keeping up with educational trends also see the trends in various industries, changing the way people get and keep jobs. For example, technology transforms all jobs, and employees need to learn new skills, or even adapt to a completely new position on short notice.

Because of this, students need to be in a lifelong learning mindset and recognize that when they graduate from school, they still have so much more to learn. This is one of the hot topics in education because employers are now integrating online classes and virtual learning to help employees transition to new roles. Teachers are also preparing their students with this mindset in the classroom.

6. Focus on Physical and Mental Health in Education

In our more stressful world, especially after the Covid Pandemic, mental and physical health have become top priorities in our society, and one of the emerging trends in education. In keeping up with educational trends, just as we are focusing on global, well rounded humans, it is equally as important to include mental and physical health in their wholeness. When students and teachers feel good in their bodies and minds, they are more open to new experiences, learning new things, and enjoying the process.

Conclusion

Education is evolving faster than ever! Now, the hot topics in education have implications for the future of the world because of technology, AI, globalization, and the need for worldwide problem solving. In embracing these new trends in learning, we are producing global citizens well equipped for the world they will inherit.

NARA Education fully embraces these emerging trends in education in our schools and on our virtual school technology. We believe that education can change children and the world, and all the above trends in learning fuel our mission.
